Vacuum assisted delivery produces what kind of head injury?
Cephalohematoma (subperiosteal bleed)
Maculopapular rash that evolves into pustules on erythematous base
Erythema toxicum neonatorum - reassurance only
Appears at birth-3 days, resolves within a week
Erythematous, papular rash on occluded and intertriginous areas
Miliaria rubra - avoid overheating
Occurs at any age but not at birth
Can use topic steroids if severe
Firm, white papules on face at birth
Milia - resolves within a month on its own
Diffuse, nonerythematous pustules -> hyperpigmented macules with collarette of scale
Neonatal pustular melanosis - pustules resolve in days, hyperpigmentation in months
Erythematous papules and pustules on face and scalp only
Neonatal cephalic pustulosis - resolves in weeks to months
Occurs at 3 weeks of age
Can use topical steroids or ketoconazole if severe
Where does seborrheic dermatitis appear besides scalp?
Eyebrows, retroauricular areas also have yellow, greasy scales
Also, confluent erythema glistening without oozing - seen in skin folds and umbilicus
Contraindication to pertussis vaccine
Encephalopathy within 7 days of previous
Rotavirus vaccine contraindication
Hx of intussusception and SCID
CD4 requirement for MMR and Varicella
200; even if >200, do not give other live vaccinations
Vaccine cautions with egg allergies
MMR, influenza - observe closely
Yellow fever also
When to treat for lead poisoning
Venous blood lead 45-69 - start oral succimer and retest within 48 hours
If >70, hospitalize and start succimer + CaNa2EDTA, retest within 24 hours
