1- pink trunk, blue extremities

1- weak, inactive
2- strong, active
grades for respiration

what is the use of the ballard score?
to estimate true gestational age after birth
what are the 2 areas examined in ballard score?
neuromuscular and physical
grasp reflex
baby will close fingers around object placed in hand (28 weeks)
moro reflex
with loss of support/feeling like they are falling, baby will abduct arms, then adduct, then usually cry (28 weeks)
tonic neck reflex
turn head to one side, on the side the head is turned to baby will extend arm/leg and will flex the opposite side arm/leg (35 weeks)
placing reflex
put anterior tibia against a surface and baby will lift leg, as to step up
