cultural hegemony definition
a culturally dominant set of beliefs that are accepted by most of society
counter hegemony
a new vision of how society should be run-socialist not capitalist ways
2 reasons why the ruling class wont ever have complete hegemony
1)they are a minority and are vulnerable to attack
2)the working class have a dual class consciousness-working class know they’re being exploited but are waiting for an opportunity to revolt
organic intellectuals
-proletariat who are free thinkers
-must educate others into a counter hegemony
-they will start the revolt
make up of relative autonomy
-3 parts
-econ system-means of production+private property
-political system-passing and enforcing laws
-ideological system-socialisation maintaining cultural hegemony
define relative autonomy
each system has the independence to make decisions as long as they support the econ system
why will capitalism end?
-not from a revolt
-econ system will gain too much power and break away, then all systems will fall
