Needle-stick injury procedure

1. Deal with contamination site

Encourage bleeding by gently squeezing site
Wash wound in warm running water with soap
Dry and apply waterproof dressing
*eyes: wash with copious amounts of water or saline
*mouth: irrigate thoroughly with drinking water for 5 mins or more (do not swallow)

Report incident to supervisor or senior dental nurse who will refer to ‘Blood and Body Fluid Exposure Incident Management Pack’
