Why?
A
To transfer a carved restoration into one which is highly polished and smooth
Will hinder plaque accumulation and corrosion
More aesthetic

When?
A
Not until 24 hours after placement to ensure setting reaction is complete

With what?
A
Multi-bladed steel finishing burs
-flame, pear and inverted flame
Flame used in slow handpiece (on slow speed) using cuspal form as guide
Then polished with 1) brownies and 2) greenies
Can polish with prophy paste on brush (slow handpiece) - only light pressure
Any proximal surfaces finished with finishing strips
Final polish with ZnO powder on clean, dry brush
-handpiece on full speed and lightly dabbed onto tooth
