Liners and bases Flashcards
Procedure: indirect pulp capping
Remove all wet and infected dentine, leave only thin layer of caries over pulp.
Disinfect cavity with 2% Chlorhexidine.
Place GIC lingin and seal with composite
Procedure: direct pulp capping
Very small pinpoint exposure
Disinfect with 2% Chlorhexidine
Apply Dycal/ Life over exposure
Have to place GIC over it if filling is composite
Why?
Prevent inflammation of the pulp
Reduce sensitivity and pain
Prevent bacterial infections after restorations, as bacteria can penetrate to pulp due to microleakage
GIC types
Chemfil and Fuji IX- self-setting: 15s in amalgamator
RMGIC (Fuji II) - light-cured: 10s amalgamator
-addition of HEMA and photoinitiator
GIC
Base Used under deep amalgam fillings Antibacterial properties Fluoride release Formed by acid-base reaction
Calcium hydroxide (Dycal)
Self-setting Liner Used under amalgam not composite Used in pulp capping Antibacterial 10s mixing time
Zinc oxide eugenol
Kalzinol/ IRM Commonly used as a temporary Used in pulp capping May be used under amalgam not composite Antibacterial
Compomer (Dyract)
Can’t be used with ZOE lining
Either found as tube or capsule on clinic
