Neck Vessels Abnormal Findings Flashcards
1
Q
what order should you perform a regional CV assesment?
A
- pulse and BP
- extremities
- neck vessels
- precordium
2
Q
what is carotid sinus hypersensitivty?
A
a condition where pressure on the carotid sinus causes decreased HR, BP and cerebral ischemia with syncope
3
Q
what does a diminished carotid pulse feel like? what does it indicate?
A
- small and weak
- decreased stroke volume
4
Q
what does an increased carotid pulse feel like?
A
full and fast paced
5
Q
what can you asses from the jugular vein?
A
the central venous pressure ( CVP)
6
Q
what can you judge using the CVP?
A
the heart’s efficiency as a pump and the intravascular volume status
7
Q
what is an abnormal finding of the jugular vein? what does it indicate?
A
- full distended external jugular veins above 45 degrees
- indicate increased central venous pressure as with heart failure
