Neck Muscles and Fascia Flashcards
Insertion of Platysma muscle
Mandible
–>(specifically on the inferior border with some fibers sweeping upward and blending with Risorius)
What are the 2 actions of the Platysma muscle?
- Stretches tight the skin of the neck
2. Depress Mandible
What nerve and what specific branch innervates the Platysma muscle?
Facial Nerve (CN VII), Cervical branch
Origin of the Sternocleidomastoid muscle
Manubrium and Clavicle (medial third of clavicle)
Insertion of the Sternocleidomastoid muscle
Mastoid Process and lateral half of superior nuchal line
What are the two actions of the Sternocleidomastoid muscle?
- Bilaterally - Flexes neck
2. Individually - draws head to shoulder and turns face to opposite side
What two nerves innervate the Sternocleidomastoid muscle?
- Spinal Accessory n.
2. APR of C2 and C3
Origin of Trapezius muscle
Spines of all thoracic and cervical vertebrae
Insertion of Trapezius muscle
Spine and Acromion of scapula
Lateral third of clavicle
What are the two actions of the Trapezius on the head?
- Bilaterally - extends head
2. Individually - tilts chin to opposite side
What are the two actions of the Trapezius on the limb girdle?
- Rotates and adducts scapula
2. Elevates scapula and clavicle
What innervates the Trapezius?
Spinal Accessory n.
APR of C3 and C4
Name all eight muscles of the posterior triangle of the neck
Platysma, Sternocleidomastoid, Trapezius, Splenius Capitis, Levator Scapulae, Posterior Scalene, Middle Scalene, Anterior Scalene
Origin of the Splenius Capitis
Ligamentum Nuchae (lower part) and Cervical Spines (lower)
Insertion of Splenius Capitis
Mastoid Process and Nuchal Line (superior)
Two actions of the Splenius Capitis
- Bilateral - Extends head
2. Individually - Flexes head laterally, rotates head to ipsilateral side
What innervates the Splenius Capitis muscle?
Segmented PPR of cervical spinal nerves
What is the origin of the Levator Scapulae muscle
Transverse processes of 4 upper cervical vertebrae
