Only printed stories favourable to government

I’d government did not approve of a newspaper then they would be shut down

By 1934- 6 million members
Membership was voluntary then compulsory
Parents could be threatened with removal of children if they did not allow them to join
Took up leisure time- people fell behind on school work
Organised into different groups depending on age

Cut unemployment work done cheaper labour + Nazi ideas
Wore uniform and live in camps for 6 months
Low wages
Built autobahns, drainage ditches, farms and planting forests
Were workers better off under Nazis
Unemployment fell- also due to world recovered from depression
Wages lower
Hours of work increase 60 to 72 per week
Workers could not go on strike- no trade unions

Essential to join work book- behaviour, time keeping and absences + impossible to get a job without it
Extra holiday protected them from being sacked on the spot
Campaigns to improve conditions- Persuaded people that regime cared for welfare
Did nothing to prevent against worsening conditions

Increased support for Nazis, offered activities- hiking expeditions, cruises, cheap holidays (Italy)

Money used to produce weapons few got holidays/ car
No one complained- Gestapo
