A

Lead by Clause Graf von Stauffenburg

Although agreed with Nazi policies at start, as the war progressed he saw the mass entreatment on the Jews

He became convinced that Germany was heading to disaster and that the only way to prevent this was to remove Hitler

Formed a group with other people who shared his views

20th July, he attended a meeting at Hitler’s East Prussian headquarters.

Placed bomb in case and slid next to Hitler, however a heavy table leg had shielded Hitler form the blast.

A

Created by the Hamplels, between 1940-1942 they had written over 200 postcards urging people to stop donating money to the Nazis and overthrow Hitler.
Nearly all of the 200 postcards were handed in due to fear the public had over such resistance. They were executed in 1943.

Q

What is the Volksstrum

A

In October 1944, the military situation worsened for the Nazis.
Hitler ordered the creation of the Volksstrum. This was a national military which the Nazis hoped would be able to defend Germany against the advancing Russian and Allied troops.

17
Q

How old did you have to be to join the Volksstrum and what did this mean

A

All males between 16 and 60 who were not already in military service were forced to join. Nazi officials even patrolled German hospitals searching for injured German soldiers fit enough to hold a gun.

Members got 4 days training and received no uniform.. Issued with old rifles and captured foreign weapons. The sight of teenagers and middle-aid men marching through the streets did little to rase the moral of the German people
