Navigation Flashcards
Lambert Conformal Conic Projection
–a cone is superimposed over the surface of the earth.
–Angles between meridians and parallels are the same on map as on the ground
–All meridians and parallels converge towards the nearest
pole
–max distortion of ½ to 1%.
Transverse Mercator Projection
Highly accurate on small scale = widely used in Terminal Area Charts.
–meridians & parallels of latitude are straight and parallel lines.
–straight line between any two points on a Transverse Mercator Projection represents a rhumb line
The only map in aviation based upon a Transverse Mercator Projection is the
VTA, or VFR terminal chart
–Because of the high volume of traffic, greater accuracy is required.
–Scale of a VTA is 1:250,000
The Canadian Flight Supplement
-provides detailed information on
aerodromes such as communications, runway data, public facilities, etc.
–valid 56 days
6 sections to the CFS
1) General info =
abbreviations, cross-reference, aerodrome directory, phonetic alphabet, legends, a section explaining how to use the primary section, the aerodrome, and facility directory.
