Aircraft Systems Flashcards
Function of the Carburetor
Measure correct quantity of fuel, vaporize it, mix it with air in the proper proportion & deliver it to the cylinders
Function of the Throttle
controls the quantity of fuel & air flowing to the engine from the carburetor.
Function of the Mixture
control ratio of fuel to air being mixed in the carburetor
Increase Alt = thinner air = need to reduce fuel to keep ratio consistent.
Generator or Alternator
harness mechanical power from the engine to create electrical power for systems.
Voltage Regulator
control the output of the alternator and convert AC to DC.
Ammeter
monitor the flow of current from the alternator to the battery
Circuit Breakers
Fuses to protect the system.
Bus Bars
distribute electricity to various electrical devices.
If excessive rate of charge is detected in flight
WHAT CAN IT MEAN?
may be a problem with the alternator or the voltage regulator
If an insufficient rate of charge is detected IN FLIGHT
WHAT CAN IT MEAN?
problem with the alternator or the alternator belt may have snapped.
Purposes of Oil
Cooling
Sealing
Lubricating

Difference between Octane & Heptane
Octane =slow & smooth burn
Heptane = high detonation
Rating of “80” = 80 Oct & 20 Hep
