Naval Academy Fund Flashcards
What is the Naval Academy Fund (NAF)?
The NAF is the most powerful and versatile way to support the U.S. Naval Academy. It is the engine that fuels all Academy philanthropy and allows the Superintendent the flexibility to meet the emerging needs of USNA. It supports 3 distinct needs: The Brigade of Midshipmen, The Alumni Association, The Foundation. $9 million annual goal
How are gifts to the NAF used?
The Naval Academy Foundation is a self -funded organization and gifts to the NAF provide support for all Foundation operations. Additionally, ~ $2 million annually supports the Alumni Association’s works, such as Shipmate magazine, reunion activity and other alumni engagement opportunities. Finally, Academy leadership uses unrestricted gifts to the NAF to jump start or sustain programs including study abroad opportunities, senior year Capstone projects and experiential leadership development.

NAF augments other Alumni Association revenue streams to help provide alumni services such as Shipmate magazine, class reunion support, career services, WaveTops e-news, usna.com and staff support for alumni chapter, shared interst groups and parent clubs worldwide (most colleges and universities partially fund their alumni operations but by law the Naval Academy cannot provide that support).
How does the NAF support the Foundation?
Unrestricted gifts to the NAF provide funding for operations and staffing of the Foundation. For every $1 spent on the Foundation operations we raise $7 for the Academy
What is the Unrestricted Donor Wall?
