IFR Flight Control Systems Limits
SAS must be operational
Mag brake must be engaged
Speed trim must be operational
IFR electrical failures
Main batt fail: TR’s provide power
Single gen fail: standby gen powers
Dual gen fail: L/R main batt and inverter
Total fail: AUX batt provides power to ECS, gen reset, STBY attitude indicator
What fails when total electrical failure occurs?
All aircraft systems
Including SAS
AUX batt provides STBY attitude Center Ball Reduce Airspeed Yell instrument calls (ICS inop) Obtain VFR
IFR equipment blower fan failure
Temp exceeds 130°f
Shut down non essential radios
Check reset fan breaker
Remove AVI closet door
IFR SAS failure
Single/Dual
Slow to 80 knots or Vne
Limit bank to 5°
IFR Performance Data
No Change
How long can the AUX batt provide power to the STBY attitude indicator after total electrical failure?
90 mins
After power loss STBY AI provides reference for 9 mins as gyro slows
Speed Trim Failure
Must operational in IMC
Flight may continue to obtain VMC
