Nav 34 - Integrated Nav Computers Flashcards
What are the advantages of Integrated Navigation Computers?
Redundancy, other system to use if a system is lost
Accuracy check between computers
Different sources of information used to calculate navigation solution
Ability to use strengths of one system to offset weaknesses of another
Use one system for calculation while other navigates
What are the disadvantages of Integrated Navigation Computers?
Programming multiple computers
Determining which computer is most accurate
Integrated solution effected by the drift, errors, jamming, failures of a system
What is the Integrated Nav Sequence of Events?
Takeoff Calculate ETAs Conduct EOC check TOC and Level off (fuel analysis) Hourly systems check
What criteria must be met to calculate ETAs?
Cleared on course;
Abeam navaid/ aerodrome; and
Above the 100 nm safety altitude, or when safely able if not flying above 100 nm safe altitude
Who passes ramp time (take-off + 3.0 hrs) to pilots?
Lead
What is the first systems check?
Established On Course check
What does the Established On Course check confirm?
Accuracy of navigation computers and which will be the primary source of navigation.
When must you wait until to start the EOC check?
Until the aircraft is +/- 30° from the on course and above safety altitude
What is the EOC Check Procedure?
Hold computers (DID or Px hold)
Log the GPS and INS positions
Plot both GPS and INS on map, annotate with the time positions were taken
Measure distance between plotted GPS and INS
If INS is within 5nm of GPS, no update required. Outside 5nm, update required.
Log the number of tracking and visible satellites
Log and plot computers wind and compare to planned. Adjust if significantly different
Log G/S and DA from primary computer
Log Doppler G/S and DA and compare to computer information
Regarding the EOC Check Procedure, when will the INS need to be updated?
If the INS is within 5nm of GPS, no update required
If the INS is outside 5nm, update required.
Regarding the EOC Check Procedure, when shall GPS be the primary navigation computer? When shall it not?
If 3 or more satellites are tracked, GPS shall be the primary navigation computer.
If 2 or less satellites are being tracked, the INS shall be the primary
What analysis should be conducted during the level off check?
A fuel analysis
After a fuel analysis is complete, what should the analysis be compared to?
Compared to the supplied MilPlanner / CFPS
What are the three hourly requirements that ACSO students are responsible for?
Fuel analysis
Systems check (same as EOC check)
Position reports
Navaids are another enroute responsibility, Navaids should be?
Diversified (don't pick the same one for VOR 1 & 2) In range Geographically separated (in different locations from the plane itself
