Nav 16 - 18 Jepp Comp Wind Side Flashcards
Review Questions
What are the three vectors which make up the triangle of velocities?
Air vector - TH/ TAS
Ground vector - Trk / G/S
Wind vector - W/V
Review Questions
What are the variables that make up each vector?
Air vector - TH/ TAS
Ground vector - Trk / G/S
Wind vector - W/V
Review Questions
Define Track Made Good (TMG)
The actual path the aircraft travels over the ground
Review Questions
Define Required Track
The intended path over the ground
Review Questions
Define Drift
The lateral movement imparted on to the aircraft by the wind
Define the following:
Wind component
The along track component of the wind force that acts parallel to the track, affecting the ground speed
Define the following:
Drift component
The cross track component of the wind force that acts perpendicular to track, affecting the aircraft’s drift
What are the two possible wind components on the jepp?
Headwind or tail wind
What are the two possible drift components on the jepp?
Port or starboard
Define the folllowing:
Effective TAS (ETAS)
The amount of true airspeed along the course. The head or tailwind is added to this to give the ground speed
At small drift angles what us true about the ETAS?
The ETAS is so close to the TAS that they may be considered the same.
At drift angles greater than 10°, what is true about ETAS?
ETAS will be less than TAS
When working left to right on the log:
Drift: Port and Starboard?
Variation: West and East?
Drift: Port = plus (add) / Starboard = (subtract)
Variation: West = add / East = subtract
