Nav 24 - 25 - LLRN Procedures Flashcards
As soon as the hack is Radar identified, the lead student will do what?
Inform the crew it is identified
Ex. “Crew, Lead, Hack is Radar identified, 23 nm”
Approximately 2 minutes back from the hack the lead student will provide what?
The Hack Brief
On the “Hack Now” call from the pilot, what will the students and the Lead student do?
Students: Start their watches
Lead student: Take the navigation
After the Hack, the pilot will call “wings level”. The lead student will then do what?
The 5T check in ICS
As soon as the TP is radar identified, what will the Lead student do?
Inform the crew, same as Hack
Approximately 2 minutes back from the TP, the lead student will provide what?
A briefing for the upcoming leg.
At what distances will the Lead advise the crew from the TP, IP and Tgt?
6, 3, 2, 1 nm
If unable to identify TP, what can a student do?
Proceed as per lost procedure.
After any TP and IP, what must be conducted?
5T check
What is the rule of thumb for a 90° rate one turn?
Lead the turn by 1% of the ground speed.
Ex. @ 180 kts G/S, a 90° should be initiated 1.8 nm back
Approximately two minutes back from the Hack, TP or IP, the Lead student will provide a briefing on the upcoming leg. This brief will include?
Description of the turning point to include ETA Outbound heading Distance to next point Time at next point Minimum IFR altitude Climb/ decent if needed Hazards or restrictions Hack/ TP brief complete
What are the steps in the 5T Check?
Time Turn Track Throttle Talk
What does the Time portion of the 5T check entail?
Verbalize time on top note any difference from flight planned time.
What does the Turn portion of the 5T check entail?
Ensure pilot turned to briefed heading, then correct for drift using Doppler information if the actual drift differs from anticipated drift.
What does the Track portion of the 5T check entail?
Carry out a Track Angle Departure check
What does the Throttle portion of the 5T check entail?
Brief the pilot on the desired ground speed.
What does the Talk portion of the 5T check entail?
Make a blind broadcast as required on the most suitable VHF frequency.
Besides the blind broadcast, the leads are responsible for UHF/VHF to Wing Ops. What do these calls include?
Start crew Taxi call Airborne call Inbound call Taxi in call
Who is always responsible for receiving, acknowledging, and identifying a potential conflict to the pilot? How do they do so?
Lead is, they will call either “conflict” or “no-conflict”
Who has to identify possible conflicts to their instructor?
All students
How shall the Lost Procedure be conducted?
Maintain a steady heading
Review previous navigation
Mark estimated position on map
Turn on ETA for turning point
What are some useful Map Reading techniques?
Orient the map with the direction of flight
Use the big-to-small technique
Use at least three confirming features to ID px, track, hack, TP and target.
Use WATCH, MAP, RADAR
When looking for the next TP / TGT on radar, what technique should you use?
Big to small techniques
First, locate TP/TGT on map with reference to any large features
Find those large features on the radar
Work big to medium to small to identify any point
Students shall remain within ___ nm of the track at all times.
5 nm
What are some Radar procedures regarding Range?
Selected most appropriate range rings for length of leg
Decrease range as you get closer
After you scale down, rehook the cursor on the TP to refine steering
What are some Radar procedures regarding Tilt?
Decrease tilt as you get closer to waypoint to reduce clutter
What is the Radar Procedure Summary?
Look for waypoints on radar
Put cursor on the TP/TGT and hook position
Call “Crew, Lead, (TP,IP,TGT) identified on radar, xx nm”
Read drift and AC BRG/DIST
Apply HDG
Adjust scale/ tilt/ STC as you approach the TP
6nm or 2 min TP, IP, TGT brief
3, 2, 1 nm calls
On top call and new heading to pilot
Immediately after wings level, 5T check
