Is Christianity monotheistic or polytheistic?
Monotheistic
Monotheistic
Teaches belief in one god - Christian’s don’t believe in other Gods; can worship no other gods or idols; and believe that their God is responsible for all creation
Why is it comforting to Christian’s to believe that their god is loving, forgiving and personal?
Because it shows that he cares about them, and that they do not need to be afraid of him
What affect may God the Judge have on Christian’s?
They may try to leave good lives because they expect God to judge their actions
Why is God described as transcendent and immanent?
Because he is not bound by time and space
One reason for believing in God’s immanence:
The person of Jesus - believed to be sent by God / God incarnate
Quote
For god so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
Why might some Christian denominations place more emphasis on God as a loving, forgiving and personal God?
Jesus taught that God sent his son to save the world due to love; that he wanted a relationship with humans and would forgive them when they went astray and repented; and taught his disciples go pray to have a relationship with God.
Why might some Christian denominations place more emphasis on God as a powerful judge?
God gave the Jewish people commandments to follow, and Jesus taught that he would judge people at the end of time
