Jesus Christ Flashcards
Agape
Unconditional love
- God’s unconditional love for humans and the love humans should have for god.
DOESNT demand reward
Not a feeling = action without thought for the benefit or harm that might be endured by the person who has offered the love
Jesus’ life example and teachings
- Jesus helped a leper; haemorrhaging woman and a dead girl and many others
- Good Samaritan - Jesus teaches people to help their neighbour, no matter who they are. In the two great commandments he teaches people to love god and their neighbour.
Sermon on the mount
Jesus told the crowd that a number of groups of people were blessed (this is known as the beatitudes)
Beatitudes do nots:
Break religious laws, commit adultery, get divorced, take oaths, retaliate, build up wealth, worry, judge others, profane the holy
Beatitudes dos:
Let your light shine for others, reconcile with others, love your enemies, give charity, fast in secret, pray, ask god for what you need, treat others as you would want to be treated, put gods words into action.
Quote
In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets.
What do some Christian’s believe about the term ‘son of god’
Jesus was a special human chosen by god with a special relationship with god. Humans are often referred to as god’s children. Some early believers felt that Jesus was a divine being, but not equal to god the father. Many Christian’s today believe that Jesus is as much god as god the father, but a different person of the trinity
What were the Jews expecting from Jesus?
A political messiah and saviour. Jesus came to save humanity spiritually instead. However, he still fulfilled the prophecy and god’s plan.
God referred to as ‘Lord’
Shows Jesus’ high status by giving him the same title as the lord
Jesus the messiah
Anointed one
Came to save humanity from sin and death
He is divine and has power over christians.
Incarnation
‘In flesh’ god in flesh is Jesus Christ
‘The word became flesh’ = god horn on earth
