Natural Selection Flashcards
Describe mutation
Random and spontaneous change in DNA which can cause change in physical features which can be an advantage, disadvantage or neutral
Describe Variation
Variation is caused by mutations and increases a species chance of survival
Describe evolution
The changes in a populations physical features which increases the chances of a population surviving in response to changes in environmental conditions
Describe species
A species is a group of organisms that can interbreed to produce fertile offspring
Steps of Natural selection
1) mutations
2) variation
3) advantages
4) survival of the fittest (natural selection)
5) reproduce
My very angry sister runs
Describe the meaning speciation
Speciation is the process by which a new species is created form a single population, by the process of natural selection.
Deceive the process of speciation
2) Isolation
3) Mutations
4) Natural Selection
5) Evolve
isolated mice need eggs
Describe the separation step of speciation
A small group of organisms get separated from the original population
Describe the isolation step of speciation
The small group is isolated from the original population so it can no longer breed with members of the original population
Describe the mutation step of speciation
A mutation is a random change in the DNA of an organism which causes a change in the organisms physical features
Describe the natural selection step of speciation
Natural selection will cause different advantages mutations in each group to be developed, due to different selection pressures
Describe the evolve step of speciation
Over time each group will evolve until they become so genetically different they are two species
