Natural gas case study Flashcards
1
Q
Information about natural gas
A
- Produces least emissions out of all fossil fuels
- It was formed from layers of decomposing plant and animal matter over millions of years
2
Q
Where is natural gas found?
A
- Found in large cracks and spaces between layers of rock
- Found in the tiny pores within sedimentary rock
- Russia, Iran and Qatar have the largest gas reserves
- Shale gas is stored in the small pores in sedimentary rock can can be accessed through fracking
3
Q
Pros and cons of natural gas
A
- Pros: Easily tansported via pipelines, risk of accidents lower than coal and oil, least emissions out of all fossil fuels, lower cost than other fossil fuels
- Cons: fracking contaminates groundwater supplies and increases risk of tectonic hazards, produces methane and CO2, storing gas is expensive
