Myocardial Infarction Flashcards
What troponin isotypes are cardiac specific
T and I
What troponin isotypes are specific to skeletal muscle
C
What is coronary flow reserve
The ratio of the coronary flow at max vasodilatation to coronary flow at rest
How does coronary flow reserve with increasing stenosis
It decreases as stenosis increases.
The flow (relative to 0% stenosis) is reduced more and at a lower stenosis percentage at max vasodilatation than at rest (curve more extreme, reduction starting earlier)
Where is pain felt in an MI
Anterior chest, left arm, neck
What is the character of the pain felt in an MI
Tight, pressure, weight, constriction, dull
What can trigger the sensation of angina
Exercise, cold, meals, psychological stress
What can relieve angina pain
Rest, GTN (nitroglycerin)
How can you tell the difference between angina and MI in terms of pain
In angina the pain will last less than 30 mins
In MI it will last more than 30 mins
Why does angina pain exist?
When tissues not getting enough oxygen due to angina, ATP is not generated and adenosine buildup causes pain
What is the difference between a stable and an unstable athersclerotic plaque?
The fibrous cap is eroded in an unstable plaque and a blood clot makes up the body of the plaque instead of cholesterol due to intraplaque haemorrhage
