Q

Why should mothers avoid liver and supplements such as fish oil in pregnancy?

A

They contain retinol, which is made of beta carotene.
If the body has too much retinol its production from beta carotene can be down regulated but the absorption retinol itself cannot be regulated - overexposure to retinol can lead to bad outcomes in pregnancy
