Myeloproliferative Disorders 9-26-14 Flashcards
*Define myeloproliferative disorder (neoplasms)
overproliferation of one more myeloid cell lineages
–>accumulation of
too many cells
Name 4 myeloproliferative disorder
- Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia
- Polycythemia Vera
- Essential Thrombocytosis
- Myelofibrosis
What are s/sx of myelogenous leukemia (CML)?
-Fatigue, Bleeding, Sweats, Weight Loss
Abdominal Fullness
-Purpura, Splenomegaly
Compare the 3 phases of CML
-Chronic Phase - median duration 3-5 years (85% of patients present
in chronic phase)
-Accelerated Phase - median duration 3-18 months
last Phase - median survival 3-6 months
- What is Tx for CML?
allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant

CML
- What chromosome abnormality is the cause CML?
Fusion of chromosome 9 & 22
What is the Tx for CML?
Imatinib

Phlebotomy (get rid of blood)
What is one complication of PV?
spent phase PV” (bone marrow burns out)–> pancytopenia
-20% tansform to acute myeloid leukemia
What is the onset age for Essential Thrombocythemia (ET)?
50-60
What is Tx of Essential Thrombocythemia (ET)?
hydroxyurea
