My hands are of your colour, but I shame to wear a heart so white Flashcards
My hands are of your colour, but I shame to wear a heart so white
Lady Macbeth is embarrassed to be associated with Macbeth after the murder. She’s ashamed that Macbeth carries this guilt whereas she’s cold and heartless after this regicide. Her focus is only on the throne. Even though they committed this act together ‘ a heart so white’ tells us white is represented as purity and decency whereas a “my hands are of your colour” tells us their hands are red- red representing blood meaning their hands are covered with evil actions and murder. The colours contrast to show Macbeth’s innocence and Lady Macbeth wants no part of that. Lady Macbeth’s rejection to guilt can be seen as an attempt to masculinity while she tries to reject her feminine side.
