MV Flashcards

1
Q

How to fly a takeoff windshear escape maneuver

A

PF:

  1. ) Max thrust, no configuration changes
  2. ) Follow flight director
  3. ) When PM says “windshear warning gone,” reduce to climb thrust
  4. ) FLCH, HDG, AP, AT
  5. ) “Climb sequence after takeoff checklist”

PM:

  1. ) Call out “descending (AGL)” or “climbing (AGL)”
  2. ) Call out “windshear warning gone” when it goes away

Q

Describe the actions of a rejected takeoff

A
  1. ) “REJECT” if PF. Or “REJECT, MY CONTROLS” if PM.
  2. ) Reduce thrust to idle then MAX reverse and disconnect AT.
  3. ) Use reverse as needed to stop the plane and bring them out of reverse at an appropriate time.
  4. ) Set parking brake.
  5. ) PA: “This is the captain. Remain seated with your seatbelt fastened.”
  6. ) Call FA’s and assess the situation.
  7. ) Do not vacate the runway until it is 100% clear that no evacuation is required.

If an evacuation is required, call FA’s and say “assess and wait for my command.” Than have FO run emergency evacuation QRC.

Q

Describe the actions and callouts of a V1 cut

A
  1. ) At first indication of engine failure, say “check thrust”
  2. ) –rotate–, –pos rate–, “gear up”
  3. ) At 400’ “HDG, autopilot on”
  4. ) At acceleration height, call for each individual flap setting 1 at a time
  5. ) Once flaps are up and speed is Vfs, “Continuous, Bank Off”
  6. ) PF calls for QRC if applicable
  7. ) Once QRC complete, transfer controls and radio to FO (If on fire, tell FO to setup for a 15 mile final and land)
  8. ) Run the QRH for engine fire/severe damage/separation or engine failure. (If fire goes out, you have time so get delay vectors/hold)
  9. ) After that QRH and prior to running the single engine approach and landing QRH, 2 out-2 in. Obtain WX at departure airport to confirm you can return to land
  10. ) Run Single Engine Approach and Landing QRH
  11. ) After all QRH complete, ABC (ATIS, build, bug, brief, CHECKLIST- so run the after takeoff checklist and descent checklist)
  12. ) After all ABC is done, transfer controls as necessary and then advise ATC you are ready for the approach

NOTE: Remember gear down=crossfeed OFF. Gear up “feed the beast”
NOTE: On single engine go around, after speed Vfs and flaps up, PF says “continuous, after takeoff checklist” (No bank off call and no QRC- just go back and do the ABC’s)

Q

Describe a single engine missed approach

A
  1. ) “Missed approach flaps 2” –pos rate–“gear up” (PM should remember “gear up feed the beast” and point the crossfeed to the working engine when he pulls the gear up)
  2. ) Above 400’ “Autopilot on”
  3. ) At acceleration height, call for each flap setting individually
  4. ) Once the flaps are up and speed is Vfs, call “Continuous, after takeoff checklist”
  5. ) Outside of that, it’s now a normal missed approach, so just make sure you do the ABC’s (don’t forget the descent checklist. Consider swapping over controls to brief because you will be below 10,000’)

Q

Describe the actions and callouts of a LOC approach

A
  1. ) Set MDA rounded up to the nearest 100’ increment on both BARO and altitude preselect
  2. ) Use LNAV but with preview needles
  3. ) Do not press APP
  4. ) No callouts at FAF

If runway in sight:
-“RUNWAY IN SIGHT, AUTOPILOT OFF, CLEAR MY FLIGHT DIRECTOR, SET MISSED APPROACH ALTITUDE”

If runway not in sight:

  • do nothing…. WAIT a few seconds. Once it goes from ASEL to ALT, then say:
  • “SET MISSED APPROACH ALTITUDE” –5000 set–
  • Press TOGA and say “MISSED APPROACH, FLAP ___, —pos rate–, GEAR UP”

Q

How to perform a PRM breakout

A

Here is what the simulator instructors want:

  1. ) Disconnect AP and slowly bank to the heading
  2. ) Leave the AT on
  3. ) Begin a climb or descent to assigned altitude initially ignoring the FD and overriding the AT. (DONT EVER PRESS TOGA)
  4. ) Once PM has the FD setup correctly, and you are established on your heading and climbing/descending to your altitude, call AP on.
  5. ) Speed Manual 200 knots
  6. ) Call for flaps 2, gear up
  7. ) Call for climb sequence after takeoff checklist

PM: your job is only to sync up the FD as quickly as you can with what the situation needs. (deselect approach, set HDG mode, set the altitude preselect, FLCH. Then engage the AP when called for and aid in configuration of the plane.)

Q

Describe the actions and callouts of an approach with vertical guidance

A

KEY: – and under case is PM callouts– while “BOLD IS PF CALLOUTS”

  • –course alive– “ROGER”
  • –glide path alive– “ROGER”
  • –faf altitude checked–“SET MISSED APPROACH ALTITUDE” –xxxx set–
  • Before 1,000’ “FLAP ____ BEFORE LANDING CHECKLIST”\
  • –1,000 stabilized cleared to land– “ROGER”
  • –approaching minimums– (PF eyes outside, PM dividing between inside and outside)
  • -minimums– “MISSED APPROACH FLAPS___” Or “RUNWAY IN SIGHT”

NOTE: SOPM now has omitted the “landing” callout. PF saying “RUNWAY IN SIGHT” implies intention to land

NOTE: The PM is the only one who can make the “approach lights continue” call, and it is not allowed for CAT II.

NOTE: “Approach lights continue” is only for CAT 1, only PM, only AT minimums (not above minimums), and of course, only if you see the lights at minimums.

Q

Describe the normal missed approach actions and callouts

A

PF: “missed approach flaps 2”
PM: Selects Flaps 2, “positive rate”
PF: “Gear up”
PM: “Gear up” -raises gear
PF: At acceleration altitude: “Climb sequence after takeoff checklist”
PM: “After takeoff checklist complete”
PF: Once established in hold or delay vectors, transfer controls to PM. Run get the WX, build, bug, brief.
–Transfer controls back
PF: When ready to start approach “descent checklist”
PM: “descent checklist complete” –calls ATC to advise of intentions to return

Q

How to perform an emergency evacuation

A
  1. ) Once the decision has been made to evacuate, call FA’s and say “ASSESS AND WAIT FOR MY COMMAND”
  2. ) Tell FO to run evacuation QRC
  3. ) Part of that QRC tells you to say “EVACUATE EVACUATE EVACUATE”
  4. ) After the procedure, secure the flight deck and grab any emergency equipment you need.
  5. ) Go back and assist with evacuation, make sure all passengers and crew are off the plane. You are the last one to leave.
