MUST KNOW - Circulatory System Flashcards
What are the 3 key components of the circulatory system?
Blood, blood vessels, the heart
Explain the composition of blood.
Plasma - 55% = mostly made of water, largest component
Thrombocytes (platelets) = assist with blood clotting
Leucocytes = A/Granulocytes, each play important function within the immune system.
Erythrocytes = no nucleus, transport oxygen from the lungs and carbon dioxide to the lungs.
What are the 3 layers of blood?
Top layer = plasma
Buffy coat layer = thrombocytes, leucocytes
Bottom layer = erythrocytes
What is the role of the arteries?
Carry oxygenated blood away from the heart
What is the role of the veins?
Carry deoxygenated blood toward The heart.
What is the role of the capillaries?
Link arteries to the veins, carry oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.
