Circulatory bone diseases - aseptic necrosis
Bone grows, but dies quickly
Circulatory bone diseases - Legg Calve Perthes
Bones grow more quickly than blood supply can keep up, but usually corrects overtime - happens most frequently in young boys 4-8 yrs
Circulatory bone diseases - Osgood Schlatter
Affects boys more so than girls 3:1 8-15 yrs
Affects children with indirect trauma and repetitive stress, tend to be overweight
Inflammatory bone disease - Ankylosing Spondylitis
Progressive chronic arthritis of the spine -> stiffness and pain
Inflammatory bone disease - rheumatoid arthritis
Progressive autoimmune disease - affects synovial cartilage/tissues as well as other areas of the body - eyes, heart, lungs, skin, bone
Inflammatory bone disease - gout
Abnormality in purine metabolism -> Uric acid crystals in joint, under skin - malaise, fever, joint pain
Inflammatory bone disease - traumatic
1st degree - microtears of collagen
2nd degree - tears causing compromised structural integrity
3rd degree - torn all the way through
Inflammatory bone disease - osteochrondritis dissecans
Fracture through bone and articular cartilage - difficult to heal, increases risk for OA
