Muscular System Lesson 3 Muscle Fibre Types Flashcards
How many muscle fibre types are there?
Muscle fibres fall into 2 main categories that are divided into 3 types.
What are the 3 muscle fibre types?
Type 1
Type 2 A
Type 2 X
What is type 1 muscle fibre?
Type 1 is a slow twitch. In type 1 muscle fibre you have low force of contraction and will contract slowly. You will have high resistance to fatigue, and is an aerobic exercise.
An example of a sporting activity that will use type 1 are marathon runners and a triathlete.
What is a type 2 A muscle fibre?
Type 2 A is a fast twitch. You have a fast contraction and a medium force of contraction. You have medium resistance to fatigue and is an aerobic and anaerobic exercise. This is when you are not sprinting but you are a at a fast jog.
An example of a sporting activity that will use type 2 A are a 400m runner so you can overtake people in a race.and when your pressing in football.
What is a type 2 X muscle fibre?
A type 2 X muscle fibre is a fast twitch. It has a very contraction and a high force of contraction. It has a low resistance to fatigue and is an anaerobic exercise.
An example of a sporting activity that will use type 2 X is a 100m sprinter or a weightlifter because it is a power and explosive muscle fibre. A 100m sprinter has a very fast contraction and low fatigue because they are only doing short term sprints.
