Muscular System Flashcards
Trapezius:
Top of the back of your neck.
Pectorals:
On your chest.
Biceps:
Top front arm.
Triceps:
Back top arm.
Abdominals:
Abs, stomach muscles.
Latissimus Dorsi:
Side of back.
Gluetals:
Bottoms.
Quadriceps:
Top front leg.
Hamstrings:
Top back leg.
Gastrocnemius:
Calf, back bottom leg.
Antagonistic Pairs:
Work in pairs, when one contracts the other relaxes: biceps contracts (agnostics) triceps relaxes (antagonists).
Synergists, origins and insertion:
Other muscles that support the agonist = synergists
The tendon of the muscle joins the stationary bone = origin
The tendon of the muscle joins the moving bone = insertion.
Fast twitch muscle fibres:
Contraction strength = very powerful
Energy production = anaerobic respiration
Endurance = only work for short periods
Who = sprinters.
Slow twitch muscle fibres:
Contraction strength = weaker
Energy production = aerobic respiration
Endurance = can work for long periods
Who = marathon runners.
Advantages of good posture:
- straight back
- prevents bone alignment strain
- more room for lungs
- digestive system has room to do its job
