Muscloskeletal Flashcards
3 inspection
size, skin colour, deformity
size inspection abnormal finding
- nodules in joints (oesteoarthritis)
- muscle atrophy due to immobility
- swelling over joint/ muscle (immune respone/ inflammation)
skin colour inspection normal finding
pinkish
skin colour inspection abnormal finding
- bruise: bleeding underlying tissue
- reddness: acute inflammation
- palloe: poor circulation
Deformity inspection normal & abnormal finding
no deformity; deformity may inidctae chronic inflammation
5 palpation
- tenderness
- pulsation in extremities
- temperature
- range of motion
- muscle strength
Tenderness palpation abnormal finding
pain when pressure applied to affected area
Tenderness palpation normal finding
no tenderness
temperature palpation normal finding
warmth
temperature palpation abnormal finding
increase heat: acute inflmmation/ infection
cold: poor circulation
Pulse in extremities palpation normal finding
capillary refill within 2-3s
palpable pulse
Pulse in extremities palpation abnormal fining
non-palpable pulse indicate: severe swelling that obstruct/ occlude blood vessels
Range of motion normal & abnormal finding
within normal range; redued range of motion
Muscle strength normal & abnormal finding
full strenghth; reduced strength
6 classfication of range of motion
5: normal
4: slight weakness
3: average weakness
2: poor range of motion
1: severe weakness
0: paralysis
