A: retracts tongue and draws it up for swallowing

A: elevates palate during swallowing

Tensor veli palatini
O: scaphoid fossa of medial pterygoid plate, spine of sphenoid and auditory tube

A: tenses soft palate and opens auditory tube during swallowing and yawning

Palatopharygeus
O: hard palate and superior palatine aponeurosis
I: lateral pharyngeal wall
A: tenses soft palate; pulls walls of pharynx superiorly, anteriorly, and medially during swallowing

I: mucosa of uvula
A: shortens, elevates and retracts uvula
