Sternocleidomastoid
O: sternal head- manubrium; clavicular head- medial third of clavicle
I: mastoid process and lateral half of superior of clavicle
A: tilts head to one side, together muscles flex neck
I: CN IX and C2 C3
Digastric
O: anterior belly- digastric fossa of mandible; posterior belly- mastoid notch
I: intermediate tendon to hyoid bone
A: depresses mandible; raises hyoid bone and steadies it during swallowing and speaking
I: A- CN V P- CN VII
Sternohyoid
O: manubrium of sternum and medial end of clavicle
I: body of hyoid
A: depresses hyoid and larynx after swallowing
I: C1-C3
Sternothyroid
O: posterior surface of manubrium
I: oblique line of thyroid lamina
A: depresses thyroid and larynx after swallowing
I: C2-C3
Thyrohyoid
O: oblique line of thyroid cartilage
I: body of greater horn of the hyoid bone
A: depresses hyoid and elevates larynx when hyoid is fixed
I: C1
Omohyoid
O: superior boarder of scapula near suprascapular notch
I: interior boarder of hyoid
A: depresses and fixes hyoid
I: C1-C3
Mylohyoid
O: mylohyoid line of mandible
I: raphe and body of hyoid
A: elevates hyoid, tongue, floor of mouth during swallowing and depresses mandible
I: CN V
Styloid
O: styloid process
I: body of hyoid
A: elevates and retracts hyoid bone
I: facial nerve
