Anterior Forearm Muscles Flashcards
Pronator teres
O: medial epicondyle of humerus and coronoid process of ulna
I: middle of lateral surface of radius
I: median nerve (c6-c7)
A: pronates forearm and flexes elbow
Flexor carpi radialis
O: medial epicondyle of humerus
I: base of 2nd metacarpal bone
I: median nerve (c6-c7)
A: flexes hand at wrist and abducts it
Palmaris longus
O: medial epicondyle of humerus
I: distal half of flexor retinaculum and palmar aponeurosis
I: median nerve (c6-c7)
A: flexes hand at wrist and tightens palmer aponeurosis
Flexor carpi ulnaris
O: humeral head- medial epicondyle of humerus, ulnar collateral ligament, and coronoid process of ulna
Ulnar head- olecranon and posterior boarder of ulna
I: pisiform bone, hook of hamate bone and 5th metacarpal bone
I: ulnar nerve (c7-c8, t1)
A: flexes hand at wrist and adducts it
Flexor digitorum superficialis
O: humeroulnar head- medial epicondyle of humerus, ulnar collateral ligament, and coronoid process of ulna
I: bodies of middle phalanges of medial four digits on the palmer aspect
I: median nerve (c8-t1)
A: flexes the middle phalanges of medial four digits; also weakly flexes proximal phalanges, forearm, and wrist
Flexor digitorum profundas
O: proximal 3/4ths of medial and anterior surfaces of ulna and interosseous membrane
I: palmer bases of distal phalanges of medial four digits
I: medial part- ulnar nerve (c8-t1)
lateral part- median nerve (c8-t1)
A: flexes distal phalanges of medial four digits; assists with flexion of the wrist
Flexor pollicis longus
O: anterior surface of radius and adjacent interosseous membrane
I: base of distal phalanx of thumb on the palmer aspect
I: median nerve (anterior interosseous) (c7-c8)
A: flexes phalanges of 1st digit (thumb)
Pronator quadratus
O: distal 4th of anterior surface of ulna
I: distal 4th of anterior surface of radius
I: median nerve (anterior interosseous) (c7-c8)
A: pronates forearm
