Upper trapezius
Attachment- external occipital protuberance, the medial 1/3 of the superior nuchal line of the occipit, the nuchal ligament, spinous process of C7
Insertion- lateral 1/3 of the clavicle and the acrominum process of the scapula
Functions- elevates, retracts and upwardly rotates has the scapula at the ScC joint
Middle trapezius
Attachments- the spinous processes of T1-T5
Insertions- acromion process and spine of the scapula
Functions- retracts scapula at the ScC joint
Lower trapezius
Attachment- spinous processes of T6-T12
Insertions- the tubercle at the root of the spine of the scapula
Functions- depresses scapula at the ScC joint
Rhomboids minor
Attachments- spinous processes of C7-T1 and the inferior nuchal ligament
Insertions- root of the spine of the scapula
Functions - retracts, elevates and downwardly rotates the scapula at the ScC joint
Rhomboids major
Attachment- spinous processes of T2-T5
Insertions- between the root of the spine and the inferior angle of the scapula
Functions- retracts, elevates and downwardly rotates the scapula
Levator scapulae
Origin- transverse processes of C1-C4
Insertion- medial border of the scapula, from the superior angle to the root of the spine of the scapula
Functions- elevates the scapula at the ScC joint
Serratus anterior
Origin- anterolaterally, ribs 1-9
Insertion- anterior surface of the entire medial border of the scapula
Functions- protracts and upwardly rotates the scapula at the ScC joint
Pectoralis minor
Origin- ribs 3-5
Insertion- medial aspect of the coracoid process of the scapula
Functions- protracts, depresses and downwardly rotates the scapula at the ScC joint
