DIGITAL FLEXORS of forelimb:
1. m. flexor digitorum superficialis
O: medial epicondyle of humerus
I: middle phalanx of digits II-V. (palmar surface)
A: flexes carpus and affected joints of digits II-V.
MUSCLES OF FL:
2. M. Flexor digitorum profundus
(caput, humerale, radiale et ulnare)
O:
- caput HUMERALE: from medial epicondyle of humerus,
- caput RADIALE: proximo-medially from radius,
- caput ULNARE: proximo-caudally from ulna
I: distal phalanx of digits I-V.
(palmar surface, on the last phalanges’ flexor tubercle)
A: flexes carpus and joints of digits I-V.
MUSCLES OF FL: - supinators of forelimb:
3. m. supinator
It’s also called m. supinator brevis
O: lateral epicondyle of humerus,
lateral collateral ligament
I: cranial surface on proximal part of radius
A: supinates forearm and forefoot (rotates arm laterally)
MUSCLES OF FL: - supinators of forelimb:
4. m. brachioradialis
It’s also called m. supinator longus.
Just about 33% of the dogs have it
O: lateral supracondylar crest,
above m. ext. carpi radialis
I: distally and medially on radius
A: supinates forearm and forefoot (rotates arm laterally)
MUSCLES OF FL : DIGITAL EXTENSORS of forelimb:
- m. extensor digitorum communis
- m. extensor digitorum lateralis
- m. extensor digiti I. et II. (CA)
- m. abductor digiti I. [pollicis] longus
MUSCLES OF FL : DIGITAL EXTENSORS of forelimb:
5. m. extensor digitorum communis
O: lateral epicondyle of humerus
I: proc. extensorius of distal phalanx of digits II-V.
A: extends carpus and joints of digits II-V.
MUSCLES OF FL : DIGITAL EXTENSORS of forelimb:
6. m. extensor digitorum lateralis
O: lateral humeral epicondyle,
lig. collaterale laterale
I: goes to digits III-V., at the level of first digit it
unites with tendons from common digital extensor and
interosseous muscles, inserts on distal phalanx (proc.
A: extends carpus and joints of digits III-V.
MUSCLES OF FL : DIGITAL EXTENSORS of forelimb:
7. m. extensor digiti I. et II. (CA)
O: middle third of ulna (laterally)
(adjacent to m. abductor digiti I. longus)
I:
pollicis: head of Mc. I.,
indicis: unites with common digital extensor, thus together are inserting on distal phalanx of digit II.
A: extends digits I-II., indicis adducts dew claw
(which is not in contact with the ground)
MUSCLES OF FL : DIGITAL EXTENSORS of forelimb:
8. M. abductor digiti I. [pollicis] longus
O: adjacent lateral surface of radius and ulna,
and from interosseous membrane
I: Mc. I. base (medially)
A: extends and abducts digit I.
MUSCLES OF FL: - Pronators of forelimb:
M. pronator teres
O: medial epicondyle of humerus
I: craniomedial surface of radius’ upper part
A: pronates forearm (rotates arm medially)
MUSCLES OF FL: - Pronators of forelimb:
M. pronator quadratus
O and I: connects apposed surfaces of radius and ulna,
fills interosseous space (medially)
A: pronates forearm (rotates arm medially)
MUSCLES OF FL: CARPAL FLEXORS
M. flexor carpi radialis
O: medial epicondyle of humerus,
behind collateral lig.
I: Mc. II-III. (palmar surface of metacarpals’ bases)
A: flexes carpus
