What is the origin of the platysma?
SubQ of infraclavicular and supraclavicular regions
What is the insertion of the platysma?
Base of mandible
Skin of cheek
Lower lip and of the mouth
Orbicularis oris
What action is the Platysma responsible for?
Depressing the mandible
Tensing the skin of the inferior face and neck
What are the 2 origins of the Occipitofrontalis?
Anteriorly from epicranial aponeurosis
Posteriorly from the superior nuchal line
What are the 2 insertions of the Occipitofrontalis?
Epicranial aponeurosis posteriorly
Skin of the the eyebrows and forehead
What action is the Occipitofrontalis is responsible for?
Elevates eyebrows
Protracts the scalp
What is the origin of the Orbicularis Oculi?
Orbital margin
Palpebral ligament
Lacrimal bone
What is the insertion of the Orbicularis Oculi?
Skin around the margin of the orbit
What action is the Orbicularis Oculi responsible for?
Closes eyelids
What is the origin of the Procerus?
Facial aponeurosis
Lateral nasal catilages
What is the insertion of the Procerus?
Skin between eyebrows
What action is the Procerus responsible for?
Depresses the medial sides of the eyebrows
Wrinkles skin over the dorsum of the nose
What is the origin of the Risorius?
Parotic fascia
Buccal skin
What is the insertion of the Risorius?
Angle of the mouth
What action is the Risorius responsible for?
Depresses labial commissures (corner of the mouth)
What is the origin of the Zygomaticus Minor?
Anterior part of the zygomatic bone
What is the insertion of the Zygomaticus Minor?
Skin of the upper lip
What action is the Zygomaticus Minor responsible for?
Dilation of the mouth
What is the origin of the Zygomaticus Major?
Lateral part of the zygomatic bone
What is the insertion of the Zygomaticus Major?
Angle of mouth
What action is the Zygomaticus Major responsible for?
Elevates labial commissures (corner of the mouth)
What is the origin of the Levator Labii Superioris?
Infraorbital margin
What is the insertion of the Levator Labii Superioris?
Skin of the upper lip
What action is the Levator Labii Superioris responsible for?
Dilation of the mouth- similar to Zygomaticus minor
What are the 2 muscles of the mouth and lips?
Depressor anguli oris
Depressor labii inferioris
What is the origin for the Depressor anguli oris?
Anterolateral base of the mandible
What is the insertion for the Depressor anguli oris?
Angle of mouth
What action is the Depressor anguli oris responsible for?
Depresses labial commissures (corner of the mouth)
*Opposite of the Zygomaticus Major
What is the origin for the Depressor labii inferioris?
Platysma and anterolateral body of the mandible
What is the insertion for the Depressor labii inferioris?
Skin of the lower lip
What action is the Depressor lbii inferioris responsible for?
Mouth dilator
Depresses and everts the lower lip
