Face- Lecture 14 (cont.) Flashcards
Describe the pathway for facial artery. What are the names of the 3 branches that form?
Begins from the branch of the external carotid artery
Winds around the lower mandible and becomes superficial
Passes laterally to the mouth
Forms 3 branches here:
- Superior and inferior Labial arteries
- Lateral nasal artery
- Angular artery
What are the other 2 facial arteries?
Superficial Temporal
Transverse Facial
Describe the Superficial Temporal arteries pathway.
Terminal branch of the external carotid artery
Emerges between the TMJ and auricle
Enters the temporal fossa
Divides into the frontal and parietal branches
Describe the Transverse Facial arteries pathway. What 3 structures does this artery supply?
Arises from the superficial temporal artery
Crosses face superficial to the masseter muscle
Anastomoses with the facial artery
Supplies:
Parotid gland
Masseter muscle
Skin of the face
What 4 nerves supply sensory innervation to the face?
Trigeminal nerve (CN V)
Greater occipital
Lesser occipital
Greater auricle
What are the 3 branches of the Trigeminal nerve (NC V)?
Ophthalmic (V1)
Maxillary (V2)
Mandibular (V3)
*Test- The V’s are for the foramina through which each of these nerves exits
What cranial nerve is responsible for the innervation of the face?
Cranial Nerve 7- Facial nerve is the primary motor nerve to muscles of facial expression
Cranial nerve 7 also supplies innervation to muscles derived from what?
Second pharyngeal arch (hyoid arch)
What are the 5 branches of cranial nerve 7?
Temporal Zygomatic Buccal Mandibular Cervical
