Muscle Attachments
Levator Palpebrae Superioris
O - Lesser wing of sphenoid bone (aspect forming superior border of optic canal)
I - Superior tarsus (eyelid) and its skin
Superior Oblique (SO)
O - Body of sphenoid bone
I - Tendon passes through trochlea (connective tissue ring structure), which is superior to eye, and then changes its direction inferiorly at an angle to insert into sclera deep to superior rectus muscle
A - Abduction, intorsion, and depression of eyeball
Inferior Oblique (IO)
O - Anterior part of floor of orbit
I - Sclera deep to lateral rectus muscle
A - Abduction, extorsion, and elevation of eyeball
Superior Rectus (SR)
O - Common tendinous ring (“Annulus of Zinn”)
I - Sclera just posterior to corneroscleral junction
A - Adduction, intorsion, and elevation of eyeball
Inferior Rectus (IR)
O - Common tendinous ring (“Annulus of Zinn”)
I - Sclera just posterior to corneroscleral junction
A - Adduction, extorsion, and depression of eyeball
Medial Rectus (MR)
O - Common tendinous ring (“Annulus of Zinn”)
I - Sclera just posterior to corneroscleral junction
A - Adducts eyeball
Lateral Rectus (LR)
O - Common tendinous ring (“Annulus of Zinn”)
I - Sclera just posterior to corneroscleral junction
A - Abducts eyeball
