Muscle Attachments
Iliacus
O - Iliac fossa and crest, ala of sacrum, and anterior sacroiliac ligaments
I - Tendon of psoas major, lesser trochanter & portion of femur distal to it (I.e spiral line of femur)
Psoas Major
O - Lateral bodies T12-L5 and discs between them, and transverse processes of all lumbar
I - Lesser trochanter of femur
Adductor Magnus
O - (Adductor Part) Inferior ramus of pubis, ramus of ischium; (Hamstrings part) Ischial tuberosity
I - (Adductor Part) Gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, medial supracondylar line; (Hamstrings Part) Adductor tubercle of femur
Adductor Longus
O - Body of pubis inferior to pubic crest
I - Middle-third of linea aspera of femur
Adductor Brevis
O - Body and inferior ramus of pubis
I - Pectineal line, and proximal part of linea aspera
Gracilis
O - Body and inferior ramus of pubis
I - Superomedial surface of tibia
Vastus Lateralis
O - Greater trochanter, and lateral lip of linea aspera of femur
I - Independent attachment to base of patella, forms quadriceps tendon with other heads, tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament, and lateral patellar retinacula
Vastus Medialis
O - Intertrochanteric line, and medial lip of linea aspera of femur
I - Independent attachment to base of patella, forms quadriceps tendon with other heads, and tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament, and medial patellar retinacula
Vastus Intermedius
O - Anterior and lateral surfaces of proximal femoral shaft
I - Independent attachment to base of patella, forms quadriceps tendon with other heads, and tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
Pectineus
O - Superior ramus of pubis
I - Pectineal line of femur (just inferior to lesser trochanter)
Psoas Minor
O - Sides of T12-L1 and intervertebral disc between them
I - Pectineal line (of pubis), illiopectineal eminence via illiopectineal arch
Sartorius
O - Anterior iliac spine and superior part of notch inferior to it
I - Superior part of medial surface of tibia (part of pes anserinus, which is formed by sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus)
Inferior Gemellus
O - Ischial tuberosity
I - Trochanteric fossa (greater trochanter) of femur
Piriformis
O - Pelvic surface of S2-S4, and sacrotuberous ligament
I - Superiomedial border of greater trochanter of femur (on its way, taking most space in greater sciatic foramen)
Obturator Externus
O - Margins of obturator foramen, and obturator membrane
I - Trochanteric fossa of posterior femur
Obturator Internus
O - Pelvic (inner) surfaces of ilium and ischium via passing through lesser sciatic foramen, and obturator membrane
I - Trochanteric fossa of femur (greater trochanter)
Superior Gemellus
O - Ischial spine
I - Trochanteric fossa (greater trochanter) of femur
Quadratus Femoris
O - Lateral border of ischial tuberosity
I - Quadrate tubercle on intertrochanteric crest of femur and area inferior to it
Biceps Femoris Long Head
O - Ischial tuberosity
I - Lateral side of head of fibula (tendon at this site is then split by fibular collateral ligament of knee)
Biceps Femoris Short Head
O - Linea aspera, and lateral supracondylar line of femur
I - Lateral side of head of fibula (tendon at this site is then split by fibular collateral ligament of knee)
Semitendinosus
O - Ischial tuberosity
I - Medial aspect of upper tibial shaft
Semimembranosus
O - Ischial tuberosity
I - Medial condyle of tibia, and lateral condyle of femur via oblique popliteal ligament
Coccygeus (Ischiococcygeus)
O - Ischial spine
I - Inferior end of sacrum
Levator Ani (Iliococcygeus, Pubococcygeus, and Puborectalis)
O - Body of pubis, tendinous arch of obturator fascia, and ischial spine
I - Perineal body, coccyx, anococcygeal ligament, walls of prostate/vagina, and rectum and anal canal
Gluteus Maximus
O - External surface of ilium (posterior to posterior gluteal line), dorsal surface of sacrum and coccyx, and sacrotuberous ligament
I - Most fibers: iliotibial tract (attaching to lateral condyle of tibia); Some fibers: gluteal tuberosity of femur
Gluteus Medius
O - External surface of ilium (between anterior and posterior gluteal lines)
I - Lateral surface of greater trochanter
Tensor Fascia Lata
O - Anterior superior iliac spine and anterior iliac crest (i.e. ASIS to iliac tubercle/tuberculum)
I - Iliotibial tract (attaching to lateral condyle of tibia)
Rectus Femoris
O - Anterior inferior iliac spine, and body of ilium (superior to acetabulum)
I - Independent attachment to base of patella, forms quadriceps tendon with other heads, and tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
