Hip & Femur Flashcards
Muscle Attachments
Iliacus
O - Iliac fossa and crest, ala of sacrum, and anterior sacroiliac ligaments
I - Tendon of psoas major, lesser trochanter & portion of femur distal to it (I.e spiral line of femur)
Psoas Major
O - Lateral bodies T12-L5 and discs between them, and transverse processes of all lumbar
I - Lesser trochanter of femur
Adductor Magnus
O - (Adductor Part) Inferior ramus of pubis, ramus of ischium; (Hamstrings part) Ischial tuberosity
I - (Adductor Part) Gluteal tuberosity, linea aspera, medial supracondylar line; (Hamstrings Part) Adductor tubercle of femur
Adductor Longus
O - Body of pubis inferior to pubic crest
I - Middle-third of linea aspera of femur
Adductor Brevis
O - Body and inferior ramus of pubis
I - Pectineal line, and proximal part of linea aspera
Gracilis
O - Body and inferior ramus of pubis
I - Superomedial surface of tibia
Vastus Lateralis
O - Greater trochanter, and lateral lip of linea aspera of femur
I - Independent attachment to base of patella, forms quadriceps tendon with other heads, tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament, and lateral patellar retinacula
Vastus Medialis
O - Intertrochanteric line, and medial lip of linea aspera of femur
I - Independent attachment to base of patella, forms quadriceps tendon with other heads, and tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament, and medial patellar retinacula
Vastus Intermedius
O - Anterior and lateral surfaces of proximal femoral shaft
I - Independent attachment to base of patella, forms quadriceps tendon with other heads, and tibial tuberosity via patellar ligament
Pectineus
O - Superior ramus of pubis
I - Pectineal line of femur (just inferior to lesser trochanter)
Psoas Minor
O - Sides of T12-L1 and intervertebral disc between them
I - Pectineal line (of pubis), illiopectineal eminence via illiopectineal arch
Sartorius
O - Anterior iliac spine and superior part of notch inferior to it
I - Superior part of medial surface of tibia (part of pes anserinus, which is formed by sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus)
Inferior Gemellus
O - Ischial tuberosity
I - Trochanteric fossa (greater trochanter) of femur
Piriformis
O - Pelvic surface of S2-S4, and sacrotuberous ligament
I - Superiomedial border of greater trochanter of femur (on its way, taking most space in greater sciatic foramen)
Obturator Externus
O - Margins of obturator foramen, and obturator membrane
I - Trochanteric fossa of posterior femur
