muscles Flashcards
Quadriceps:
Located at the front of the thigh, responsible for extending the knee (e.g., kicking a ball).
Hamstrings:
Located at the back of the thigh, responsible for flexing the knee (e.g., bending the knee while running).
Gastrocnemius and Soleus :
(Calf Muscles)
Involved in plantarflexion of the foot (e.g., standing on tiptoe).
Pectoralis Major
Responsible for movements of the shoulder joint, such as pushing and pulling. (Chest Muscle):
Latissimus Dorsi
Facilitates movements like pulling and adduction of the arm (e.g., rowing). (Back Muscle):
Deltoids:
Shoulder muscles involved in lifting the arm in all directions.
arm bones (upper)
The biceps are involved in flexing the elbow, while the triceps extend the elbow (e.g., during bicep curls or push-ups). biceps brachii, brachialis, (triceps brachii).
muscle actions
Isometric Contraction: Muscle contracts but does not change length (e.g., holding a plank position).
Isotonic Contraction: Muscle changes length during contraction, leading to movement (e.g., lifting weights).
Concentric Contraction: Muscle shortens (e.g., biceps contracting during a curl).
Eccentric Contraction: Muscle lengthens under tension (e.g., lowering a dumbbell in a bicep curl).
