Muscles Flashcards
1
Q
Smooth muscle
A
- centrally located nuclei (cigar shaped nucleus)
- no striations
- involuntary muscle
- does not branch
2
Q
Cardiac muscle
A
- involuntary muscle
- centrally located nuclei
- has striations
- cells/fibers branch and interconnect
- cardiac muscle fibers are composed of individual cells and connected by intercalated disc
3
Q
Skeletal muscle
A
- does not consist of individual cells
- multinucleate muscle fibers
- contains motor-end plates and elation can be found
- nucleus placement is under cell membrane (looks like it’s on the outside)
- does not branch and has striations
- the lines are called axons
4
Q
Intercalated discs
A
- the endings of the individual cardiac muscle cells which are joined end-to-end to form the muscle fibers
- found in the longitudinal sections
5
Q
Motor-end plates
A
- the contacts made by the terminal branches of the axons, of a motor neuron, with the muscle
- secretes acetylcholine
6
Q
Longitudinal fibers
A
- are long and and vertical in the skeletal muscle
7
Q
Oblique and transverse fibers
A
- are a part of the skeletal muscle
8
Q
Endomysium
A
- The fine network of connective tissue blinding the fibers together in the skeletal muscle
