  • packaged by connective Tissue sheets and attached to the skeleton via tendons
  • long, cylindrical, multinucleate (from fusing together)
  • for locomotion, can be controlled voluntarily

Smooth muscle (viscéral)

A

-no striations
-uni-nucleate, spindle shaped
-found in hollows of organs
-doesn’t contract as quickly, but can sustain contraction for much longer
Ex) peristalsis: wave-like motion of small intestine

  • in the heart, makes up atria and ventricles
  • pumps blood through blood vessels
  • cells are parallel and striated
  • joined at intercalated discs, using gap junctions
  • uninucleate, short, branched
