Muscle Tissue Flashcards
1
Q
Skeletal Muscle
A
- packaged by connective Tissue sheets and attached to the skeleton via tendons
- long, cylindrical, multinucleate (from fusing together)
- for locomotion, can be controlled voluntarily
2
Q
Smooth muscle (viscéral)
A
-no striations
-uni-nucleate, spindle shaped
-found in hollows of organs
-doesn’t contract as quickly, but can sustain contraction for much longer
Ex) peristalsis: wave-like motion of small intestine
3
Q
Cardiac Muscle
A
- in the heart, makes up atria and ventricles
- pumps blood through blood vessels
- cells are parallel and striated
- joined at intercalated discs, using gap junctions
- uninucleate, short, branched
