muscle tissue Flashcards
What are the three types of muscle tissue?
Skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and smooth muscle
What is muscle tissue for?
Specialized for contraction
Where is skeletal muscle tissue?
Attached to bone
Where is cardiac muscle tissue?
Found only in heart
Where is smooth muscle?
Found in walls of contracting organs, urinary bladder, respiratory, digestive, and reproductive tracts, and blood vessels
What are the features of skeletal muscle?
Striated muscle, multinucleated, voluntary muscle
What are the features of cardiac muscle?
Striated fibers, single nucleus per fiber, intercalated disc, involuntary
What are the features of smooth muscle?
Nonstriated, single nucleus per fiber, involuntary muscle
What is the location of smooth muscle?
Walls of internal organs such as stomach, intestine, urinary bladder, uterus, and blood vessels.
What is the function of skeletal muscle?
Movement, posture and heat production
What is the function of smooth muscle?
Moves food and fluid through organs and passageways of body
What is the function of cardiac muscle?
Pump blood
