Origin: upper end of femur, linea aspera, medial supracondylar line, medial intermuscular septum
Insertion: quadriceps tendon into patella
Action: extension of leg
Vastus Intermedialis Muscle
Innervation: Femoral Nerve
Origin: upper femur, anterior and lateral surface of femur shaft
Insertion: quadriceps tendon into patella
Action: extension of leg at knee joint, articulates genuine retracts synovial membrane during knee motion
Gluteus Maximus Muscle
Innervation: inferior gluteal nerve
Origin: ilium behind posterior gluteal line, Sarum, coccyx, sacrotuberous ligament
Insertion: iliotibial tract and gluteal tuberosity of femur
Action: extension thigh, laterally rotates thigh, extends knee
Gluteus Medius Muscle
Innervation: superior gluteal nerve
Origin: ilium between posterior and anterior gluteal line
Insertion: greater trochanter
Action: abducts thigh, tilts pelvis when walking, medially rotate thigh
Gluteus Minimus Muscle
Innervation:superior gluteal nerve
Origin: ilium between anterior and inferior gluteal line
Insertion: greater trochanter
Action: abducts thigh, tilts pelvis when walking, medially rotate thigh

Origin: iliac crest
Insertion: iliotibial tract
Action: flex thigh, abduct thigh, extend knee

Origin: body of pubis between pubic crest and symphysis
Insertion: medial lip of linea aspera
Action: adducts thigh, assists in medial rotation

Innervation: anterior division of obturator nerve
Origin: body and inferior ramus of pubis
Insertion: upper half of linea aspera
Action: adducts thigh, assists in medial rotation
Adductor Magnus
Innervation: adductor portion- posterior division of obturator nerve; hamstring portion- tibial nerve
Origin: inferior ramus of pubis, ramus of ischium, ischial tuberosity,
Insertion: posterior surface of femur, adductor tubercle
Action: adducts thigh, medially rotates thigh, extend thigh
Obturator Externus
Innervation: posterior division of obturator nerve
Origin: obturator membrane
Insertion: trochanteric fossa
Action: laterally rotates thigh
