What is a ‘concentric’ contraction?
Muscles that shorten in an exercise e.g. bicep curl. The bicep is concentric (upward phase)
What is a ‘eccentric’ contraction?
Muscles that lengthen during an exercise e.g. bicep curl. The tricep is eccentric (upward phase)
What is a ‘isometric’ contraction?
Muscles that don’t shorten or lengthen during an exercise but the muscles are all still working hard e.g. a plank.
