Adaptations of the CV System (CV) Flashcards
State the 7 adaptations of the cv system
Cardiac Hypertrophy
Increase in stroke volume
Decrease in resting heart rate
Reduction in resting blood pressure
Decrease heart recovery time
Capillarisation
Increase in blood volume
What is cardiac hypertrophy?
When the left ventricles of the heart thickens and becomes stronger. This results in more blood being pumped out in one beat.
What is increase in stroke volume?
Stroke Volume = the amount of blood pumped in one beat.
The stronger the heart, the more blood that can be pumped.
What is decrease in resting heart rate?
Your heart will return to your resting heart rate after exercise quicker
What is reduction in resting blood pressure?
Exercise causes blood pressure to rise.
The quicker it returns to normal, the better
When you stop exercising, it returns to normal
What is decrease heart recovery time?
During exercise, your heart rate will return to normal quicker which allows you to exercise more efficiently
What is capillarisation of skeletal muscle and alveoli?
During exercise, more capillaries form around the body
This will help the transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from the muscles.
It will allow gaseous exchange to work more efficiently
What is increase in blood volume?
The amount of blood circulating in your body. it differs from person to person
