3
Q
skeletal muscle characteristics
A
- striated
- multinucleated peripheral nuclei
- cells surrounded and bundled by CT
- voluntary muscle
- attached to bone and skin of face –> body movements and facial expressions
- stability of body
- limited regenerative ability
- can synthesise proteins
4
Q
cardiac muscle characteristics
A
- striated
- involuntary - autonomic NS
- only found in walls of heart
- multinucleated and central nuclei
- has contractile ability
- contains intercalated discs
- branched
- self-excitation ability - do not need stimuli
- cannot regenrate
5
Q
smooth muscle characteristics
A
- non-striated
- involuntary - controlled via ANS
- found in walls of hollow organs, blood vesssles
- single nucleus in the centre
- function = moves contents through organs; involved in vasocontrction - BP control; childbirth, digestion, thermoregulation, stability/posture
- fusiform (spindle shaped)
- ## greatest capacity of regeneration and repair
