Q

skeletal muscle characteristics

A
  • striated
  • multinucleated peripheral nuclei
  • cells surrounded and bundled by CT
  • voluntary muscle
  • attached to bone and skin of face –> body movements and facial expressions
  • stability of body
  • limited regenerative ability
  • can synthesise proteins

Q

cardiac muscle characteristics

A
  • striated
  • involuntary - autonomic NS
  • only found in walls of heart
  • multinucleated and central nuclei
  • has contractile ability
  • contains intercalated discs
  • branched
  • self-excitation ability - do not need stimuli
  • cannot regenrate

Q

smooth muscle characteristics

A
  • non-striated
  • involuntary - controlled via ANS
  • found in walls of hollow organs, blood vesssles
  • single nucleus in the centre
  • function = moves contents through organs; involved in vasocontrction - BP control; childbirth, digestion, thermoregulation, stability/posture
  • fusiform (spindle shaped)
  • ## greatest capacity of regeneration and repair
