Mumps clinical picture

A

Fever, IFI

Salivary gland swelling within 48 hours

Complications:

Orchitis - 5 to 10 days post parotitis
CNS - meningitis, encephalitis, deafness
Myocarditis

Mumps diagnostics

A

RT-PCR on buccal swab/seeum

IgM develops 5 days after symptom onset & remains positive for up to 4 weeks

Mumps PEP & IPC

A

No HNIG/MMR recommended by UKHSA

AMERICAN ACIP recommends a third dose when previously had 2 doses MMR

Exclude non-immune contacts from work/school between D12 to D25 post contact.
