Q

How does the MultiRAE read VOCs?

A

3 diff PID sensors, one reads PPM from 0.1-5000 ppm; the other from 1-1000 ppm and the 3rd reads in PPB from 10-2000 ppb

11
Q

What do you want to do with the meter just prior to metering the HAZ area?

A

A. Block pump inlet to make sure it’s working. Press rest.

B. Bump test. (If fails, recalibrate meter)

C. Confirm measurement gas (conversion factor) is set appropriately.

12
Q

What are “conversion factors”?

A

Values that must be multiplied by the reading, in LEL or VOCs, to get the true reading of a known chemical.

13
Q

Describe the MultiRAE probe and how long it takes for gas to reach the meter

A

Filter on the inlet tube of the meter it self, made out of plastic, intrinsically safe.

If using wand or tubing, takes about 1 sec/ft of tubing and wand for gas to reach meter.

14
Q

How do you bump test the meter? How often?

A

After meter has finished its warmup screen and is in the Home Screen, press and hold the Y/+ and N/- keys at the same time. The multi sensor bump screen will appear, apply 4 gas and press start. When finished it’ll say pass or fail. The next screen will be to bump the PID sensor. Apply the gas, press start. When finished the meter will go back to the home page.

Or

Press the O and N/- buttons at the same time. Select the bottle, select “multi sensor bump” and follow prompts.

The meter should be preformed once a week and before/after every call

16
Q

What gas do we calibrate LEL, O2, CO, and H2S on?

A

Multi gas- methane, O2, CO, H2S

17
Q

What gas do we calibrate VOCs on?

A

Isobutylene

18
Q

Steps to manually calibrate meter

A

1.meter must be in fresh air.
2.Home Screen press O and N/- same time
3.select calibration bottle
4.select multi sensor span
5.attach 4 gas and select start
6.see pass or fail, PID calibration starts
7.apply isobutylene, press start
8.PID done, back button to home page

19
Q

How to turn off meter

A

Press and hold O button for 5 sec

20
Q

How do you change the conversion factor for LEL and VOCs?

A

Hold O and N/- at same time
Go to 999ppm icon
Select change meas gas
Pick LEL or VOCs
Select gas library
Select gas you want to use
Back to Home Screen

The LEL and VOC will flash once every 5 sec to show what conversion factor you’re in.

21
Q

What type of battery is in the meter?

A

Lithium ion rechargeable batteries. Should be on charger when not in use.

Spare alk batt comes with meter in case lithium ion battery goes dead

22
Q

When using instrument to meter for combustible liquids w/ flash points above 100°F what area of the meter should be watched (read)?

A

VOCs. High carbon molecule products (greater than 9) may give erroneous low readings in the LEL area.

23
Q

Proper metering techniques

A

Moving slowly allowing meter to read
Meter high and low
Know the MW of the product

24
Q

How do you get the backlight to illuminate?

A

Press any button
